FM-1 HYBRID PIANO manual
The FM-1 HYBRID PIANO is in development: this manual grows with it.
Playing
- A MIDI keyboard: into the FM-1's TRS MIDI IN jack, or over USB from a computer or a MIDI host. Notes on any channel, with velocity. CC 64 is the sustain pedal (down from 64).
- The FM-1's keys: F3 to G5. OCT− / OCT+ move them an octave (three down, two up); the header shows the shift. REC held is the sustain pedal. They play as hard as they are pressed (the Play page's TOUCH, on by default; the top seven keys, C#5 to G5 at the first octave, by a weaker probe); with TOUCH off, at velocity 100 (FIXED).
Pages
- HOME, the Hybrid page: the sound's name (STUDIO GRAND) and the 88 keys, the notes ringing now lit. K1 Volume, K2 Tune (A4 up or down, in cents).
- GLO, Setup: CPU now and its peak, the voices sounding, steals (voices taken for new notes), MIDI the engine had no room for. K1 Volume, K2 Tune; K3 and K4 are blank (there is no Bench knob: the CPU bench is compiled out).
- GLO again, Play: K1 Touch (off: every key at FIXED; on: the keys sense how hard they are pressed, read from the resistance of the carbon pill under each key, fm1-monk's port of Velo's sensing), K2 Fixed (the velocity with Touch off, 100), K3 Curve (how the press maps to velocity, 0.90 the default, 0.70 the first measured; higher is softer), K4 Voices (8 to 16: the voices the piano may use at once). With Touch on the page shows the last press: the note, its velocity, the reading it came from and the key's floor and ceiling, and the softest and hardest since the page opened. All four are kept over a preset change and saved. With Touch on, the key LEDs change a little: the top seven (the keys with the probe) glow at about two thirds of their brightness, and a column whose two analog keys are both held goes dark for two frames in three while the scan samples them. Which LEDs are lit never changes, only how brightly. The battery bars are read with the scan's fast converter settings under Touch on, so they may read a few counts off; to be checked on the device.
The sampled attack, the modelled decay, pedals, reverb and echo pages come with the engine. Until then each key sounds a plain decaying tone.
